As your counselor… We follow the American School Counseling Association National Model, which reflects our comprehensive approach to servicing students directly and indirectly to assure success for all students. OUR FOUNDATION Building a program that directly focuses on student outcomes and identifies student and professional competencies. Programs are aligned with our mission and vision of our school, which demonstrates our commitment to the beliefs of successful student outcomes. Our competencies are lined up with the standards of the ASCA National Model and the State of Mississippi counseling standards. These are designed to enhance the learning process for all students at our school. The program emphasizes three domains: academics, career, and personal/social development. OUR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Through management we incorporate assessments and tools to determine the needs of the school. These assessments and organizational tools include:
Individual evaluations to discover areas of strength and improvement for individual skills and abilities.
Time assessment to assure that counselors are spending time with the recommended 80 percent policy of the time directly and indirectly spent with students.
Calendar of events and activities to keep all stakeholders informed of weekly, monthly and annual events.
Creating curriculum involving developmental areas, prevention programs, and intervention activities or services that evaluates student competencies that can have an effect on the achievement, behavior and attendance of students.
Data driven implementation to advocate for systemic change preparing all students to graduate college and career ready.
OUR DELIVERY DIRECT STUDENT SERVICES Providing person-to-person interactive services is our number one priority.
School counseling curriculum is designed to incorporate lessons that help students achieve desired competencies and to make available to all students knowledge, attitudes, and skills that are developmentally appropriate.
Individual student planning incorporates personal goal setting and future planning.
Responsive services are intended to meet students’ immediate concerns, needs, or crisis. These responsive services include individual counseling, small group counseling, or crisis response.
INDIRECT STUDENT SERVICES These services are in collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure the success of students. These stakeholders include additional referral assistance, meeting, discussions, and collaboration with parents, teachers, administration, community organizations, educators, and advisors.
OUR ACCOUNTABILITY MODEL Evaluation of the counseling program is necessary to determine the effectiveness. Viewing measurable results such as a student’s achievement, behavior, attitude, and attendance will provide information to help improve daily practices and ensure the value of the program.
OUR GOAL Building future leaders, improving overall educational outcomes, and encouraging the development of successful citizens by establishing strong roots in these three domains:
